Peercoaching

Peer coaches are students from a higher year who help other students in their study. They have good study results and have participated in the “peer coaching” training course. Peer coaches have a realistic self-image and a positive attitude. First-year students in particular find a role model in their peer coaches.

As a peer coach you give extra lessons in so-called ‘problem subjects’ in the knowledge-driven part of the programme and/or projects. You have already concluded these subjects successfully and you use your experience to coach their fellow students. The objective of peer coaching is to support the students in the problem subjects and help them to pass the exams. Extra lessons can be either in groups or individually.

Another role of the peer coach is that of student mentor. As a student mentor you help the first-year students to find their way within the university and you act as a buddy for them. You provide a role model, act as a host, answer questions and coach your fellow students. A peer coach will often be more accessible than a lecturer because of the nature of the student-student relationship based on equality. As a student mentor you use your own experience and make it easier for the student you coach to identify with you. You are the contact person within the study programme/institute. You coach students either individually or in groups.

Do you need a peer coach? Or do you want to be a peer coach? If so, contact the peer coaching co-ordinator of your study programme. For RBS these are:
